Layout

ARRANGEMENT OF THE GUIDING STRIPS

The tactile guiding strip must be arranged parallel to the longitudinal guideing strips with a flat top.

Recommended distances between tactile guiding strips:

Upper level width of guiding strips (mm) Axial distance between guiding strips (mm)
17 57 to 78
20 60 to 80
25 65 to 83
30 70 to 85

The layout and number of strips shown are illustrative, your layout may vary depending on the size of the guiding strips and the overall width of the guiding line according to the country standards.

Systematic research carried out on tactile warning studs with different dimensions has indicated that the upper diameter of 12 mm is the optimal dimension for blind and visually impaired people to detect and recognize the soles of their shoes. Experience shows that the optimal upper average for other groups within the community could be higher.

Installation of polyurethane guiding strips at the Faculty of Economics, University of Vienna The installation of the floor guiding system for the blind at the Faculty of Economics, University of Vienna was carried out in 2013. Self-adhesive guiding strips made of polyurethane TPU/P1 were used, the tape was Gerband 941, ideal in interiors. The guiding system is arranged according to ISOTI rules - International System Of Tactile Indicators. The varying number and arrangement of the strips in the guiding line defines the function of the guiding line or informs about the destination of the guiding path. The basic circuit consists of a 3-line, the path to the lift is a 4-line, the path to the stairs is a 5-line, the warning field in front of the stairs at the top is a transversely oriented 7-line, etc.

Self-adhesive installation at the Canadian Museum of Human Rights, Winnipeg The installation at the Canadian Museum of Human Rights in Winnipeg took place in 2017. White polyurethane self-adhesive guiding strips TPU/P1/35/500/3 and warning studs TPU/KH/25/3.3 were used to install the tactile floor guiding system for the blind. The elements were sticked with 3M VHB 5925 tape.

Tactile floor guiding systems in Unicredit Bank Austria branches The installations were carried out in 2011 in Vienna and some other towns nearby. Red polyurethane guiding strips TPU/P1-RE-S/35/500/3, self-adhesive with Gerband 941 tape were used for the installation of the floor guiding system for the blind. The guiding strips are arranged according to the ÖNORM standard.
